Loose Chain

Jonathan Lyndon Chase

Brooklyn Museum photograph

Object Label

With vivid pinks, purples, and teals, Jonathan Lyndon Chase paints a figure on horseback breaking free from the chains that fly about the glittery surface of the canvas. The bodies of the horse and the Black rider entwine into an almost-singular form, evoking a shapeshifting subject that sprints in the direction of its own liberation.
