Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida

Brooklyn Museum photograph

Object Label

The Spanish Impressionist painter Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida spent the summer of 1908 on the beach in Valencia with his family, where he produced a group of light-filled beach scenes. This gestural sketch, related to the 1908 painting Running on the Beach, Valencia, captures both the speed of the young girls’ movement and the fresh, breezy atmosphere.
