Josiah Wedgwood was an innovative ceramic designer. To achieve this black color, basalt clay is basically burned during the firing. This little sculpture shows Sir Isaac Newton, the famous mathematician. The Wedgwood company created sculptures like these because people liked to have them in their homes to show how much they knew!
