Seated Bodhisattva Lokeshvara
1 of 2
Object Label
This image of Lokeshvara (another name for Avalokiteshvara) shows him sitting in a non-meditative posture, leaning back on one hand, with one foot hanging off the front of his throne. This kind of relaxed pose presents both the peace of mind that comes from enlightenment and the accessibility of the Bodhisattva. In most traditions, a Buddha would not be depicted in this pose.
