  • May 5, 1972 Vying for attention with the Botanic Garden’s spring array of magnolias, daffodils and cherry blossoms is the colorful display of paintings, sculpture, graphics, ceramics and crafts that blooms each year along the fence around The Brooklyn Museum parking lot. This annual phenomenon, known as The Brooklyn Museum Fence Art Show will take place on Sunday, May 21 from 11 AM to 5 PM (rain date: May 28). Mrs. Joseph Coltrera is chairman of the Fence Show which is sponsored by the Community Committee.

    Judging the exhibition are four prominent artists from the metropolitan area: Clarence Bunch, sculptor and Coordinator, Art Department , Queens College; Shozo Nagano, painter/constructionist, New York City; Joyce Nozkowski, painter/teacher, New York City; and Alvin Smith, painter/teacher (Queens College) and critic for Art International.

    Opening simultaneously in the Museum’s Community Gallery is the 1971 FENCE ART SHOW WINNERS exhibition which will remain on view through June 18. The 26 prizewinning artists, representing a cross-section of the metropolitan and outlying areas are: Rama Originals, Sicklerville, N.J. (JEWELRY); Florence Biondi, Brooklyn; Marguerite Browne, Manhattan, and Morgan Davies, Bardoni, N.Y. (POTTERY); Joanne Doblere, Manhattan (CANDLES); Mildred Dienstag, Manhattan; Laurence Forbes-Wolfe, Manhattan; David Sebold, Queens (PRINTS); Naomi Baretz, Manhattan; Gloria Rosenthal, Syosset, L.I. (WATERCOLORS); Spencer and Roselina Depas, Brooklyn; Carol Ann Dixon, Brooklyn (TAPESTRY); Gerald Brown, Levittown; P. Mattison, Brooklyn (DRAWING); James C. Counts, Hempstead; William Einbinder, Brooklyn (SCULPTURE); Noah Baen, Brooklyn; Herbert Berman, Brooklyn; Federico Delgado, Brooklyn; Russell Dunbar, Michigan; Reginald Fludd, Huntington; Joseph Kuntner, Brooklyn; Marilyn Mark, Brooklyn; Andrew Massino, Selden, N.Y.; John Meyer, Brooklyn; Frederick L.
