Fence Art Show Award Winners: 1975

  • June 4, 1976 The Eleventh Annual Fence Art Show will take place at The Brooklyn Museum, Eastern Parkway and Washington Avenue, on Sunday, June 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free to the public. (If the U.S. weather forecast gives a 40% or more chance of showers at 8:00 a.m., the Show will be postponed to the following Sunday, June 20. If in doubt, call the Museum at 638-5000 between.8:00 and 9:00 a.m. on June 13.)

    Paintings, sculpture, graphics, crafts and ceramics will be displayed on the fence surrounding the Museum parking lot. All works are for sale. The annual event is sponsored by the Community Committee of The Brooklyn Museum.

    Judging the large numbers of entries will be Lee Ackerman, Instructor, The Brooklyn Museum Art School; Ernest Chrichlow, artist; Samuel Lacher, Director, the Brooklyn Collector, Ltd.; and Dianne Pilgrim, Associate Curator in Charge, Dept. of Decorative Arts, The Brooklyn Museum. The winners will have their works shown in the Museum‘s Community Gallery next year.

    Opening simultaneously is 1975 FENCE ART SHOW AWARD WINNERS, an exhibition of works by the seventeen artists selected by judges at last year’s Fence Art Show. The exhibition, sponsored by the Community Committee, was installed in the Museum's Community Gallery by Richard Waller, Coordinator. It will remain on view through July 25.

    The participating 1975 award-winning artists are: Kathleen Berti (Manhattan), Jewelry; Erica Bouza (Scarsdale), Jewelry; Kathleen Clifford (Boro Park, Brooklyn), Quilts; Richard John Cortez (Fort Greene, brooklyn), Painting; Hy Dareff (Lakewood, N.J.), Photography; Ronald della Jacova (Queens), Drawing; Gerald D. Fairclough (Plainview, N.Y.), Painting; Penny Feder (Queens); Printmaking; Stephen Feinsod (Queens), Printmaking; Ruth Giordano (Parkville, Brooklyn), Crafts; Ralph Gironda (Red Hook, Brooklyn), Sculpture; Mildred Hado (Queens), Painting; Joseph Konopka (Glen Ridge, N.J.), Painting; Mardia Lloyd (Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn), Crafts; Murray Melnick (Vanderveer, Brooklyn), Photography; Sherry Stephens (Clinton Hill, Brooklyn), Weaving; and Malcah Zeldis (Manhattan), Painting.

  • June 21, 1976 Winners of the 1976 Fence Art Show held at The Brooklyn Museum on Sunday, June 13, have been announced by the Museum’s Community Committee, sponsor of the annual event.

    Works by eighteen men and women were selected from paintings, sculpture, graphics and crafts displayed by 164 participating artists and craftsmen on the fence surrounding the Museum parking lot. An exhibition of the winning entries will be shown in the Community Gallery of the Museum in June of 1977.

    Those selected by the judges in each category are: painting -- Willis A. Davis, Antonio Esteves, Maureen Mullarky, and David Eaves; drawing -- Jane Schoenfeld; sculpture -- Helene Bellows and Lee N. Brozgold; graphics -- Gloria Rodriguez and Marsha Kaminsky; photography -- Joseph Eger and Michelle Moran; jewelry -- Margie Reasenberg Pye; crafts -- Joan Mesznick, Nicky Couloumbis, and Susan Gallagher; and ceramics -- Peter Rosenbluth, Janice C. Weidmann, and Onnie Millar.

    Judging the large numbers of entries were Lee Ackerman, Instructor, The Brooklyn Museum Art School; Ernest Crichlow, artist; Samuel Lacher, Director, the Brooklyn Collector, Ltd.; and Donald C. Peirce, Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts, The Brooklyn Museum.

    An exhibition of the 1975 Fence Art Show Award Winners is currently on view in the Community Gallery through July 25.
