Hyacinthe-Louis-Victor-Jean-Baptiste Aubry-Lecomte

Object Label
Hyacinthe Aubry-Lecomte learned how to make lithographs from his teacher, the French painter Anne-Louis Girodet, who embraced the technique’s ability to create soft tonal gradations. Lithography allowed Aubry-Lecomte to make finely modulated reproductive images of his master’s paintings, including this one of an Amazon warrior.
This lithograph was made using the chine collé technique, in which the image is printed on very thin, absorbent paper that enhances its luminosity, and then that print is adhered to a piece of thicker paper.
