    CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION En suite with 1990.230.9 Peacock Chair. Side Chair: Carved wood, gesso, silver gilt. In the form of a standing peacock. Back is upright scalloped tail feathers in silver gilt with red and brown highlights. Silver gilt seat is flattened body of bird with flattened out-stretched wings whose tips support bottom of fantail back. Neck of bird stretches down and to proper left from front of seat high-lighted by red and blue. Legs of bird form upright supports proper left leg in front, proper right leg supported by elongated leaf/feather resting on quaternate rock-carved base. ONDITION - Very good condition. Large crack to center seat. Gesso and gilt losses to top front proper left tail feather and center of rear of back. Small hole to top of bird's head that probably held crest feather now lacking. Gesso and gilt loss to front top proper right wing. Joint between seat body and back tail separated. Crack on seat at proper left shoulder of bird.
