"CUR" at the beginning of an image file name means that the image was created by a curatorial staff member. These study images may be digital point-and-shoot photographs, when we don\'t yet have high-quality studio photography, or they may be scans of older negatives, slides, or photographic prints, providing historical documentation of the object.
Piano Chair. Dark stained wood, metal, textile. Deep round seat with large threaded metal screw extending from underside, center of seat through metal collar encased in wood crossbar connected to front and back legs by inward-curving wood members. Thick, turned front legs raised on brass casters. Four turned "rope twist" stretchers connect legs. Curved back legs support tall "rope twist" rear stiles capped by bulbous finials. Elaborate lyre-form back splat with five central vertical dowels capped by wooden globes, all connected to outer stiles. Seat with gross-point central floral panel with scalloped border set in green/brown velvet border with wide light brown gimp. Chair (a) and seat (b).
CONDITION: Good condition. All four stretchers ill fitting with evidence of recent regluing. Residue of recent glue in joints of legs and curved supports. Legs loose. Numerous scratches and wear to finish especially on top finials and tops of front legs. Seat seams separated. White metal washers inserted between wheels and caps of casters are recent.
