CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION
Tapering cylindrical wooden form with red painted exterior and white painted interior. Sides are comprised of twelve vertical staves joined by three horizontal metal bands. Hand-painted bands with floral vine motif in green, white, red, and yellow on a black ground. Iron swing handle features turned wood holder.
CONDITION - Good, overall paint loss and cracks in red paint and on bands; top two bands have slipped down; bottom band has rusted.

Would such a bucket be used for something, or was it purely decorative?
That bucket, although highly decorative, was actually used! It is suprising that it has survived so long with the elaborate painting still intact and with minimal wear and tear since it was made in the late 19th century.
