Football Kick
Object Label
Harold Edgerton created this photo, one of the earliest color strobe pictures ever taken, in his studio/laboratory. The kicker clenches his fist in concentration; he can’t see the ball because the studio is in total darkness. The ball is caught in the instant before it starts moving through space, where it will expand and contract on its trajectory. Edgerton was famously patient and took many photographs of the same situation to achieve his desired pictorial effect.
