CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION Smoking set, glazed earthenware. Molded yellowware form on a shield shaped base. The edge of the base is a series of convex and concave sections. The scene depicts stacked logs with two baskets on either side. One basket has an ax in it. A woodblock and saw are in front of the stacked logs. The basket and stack of logs are hollow to allow for the placement of items. The top of the base is decorated with oak leaves and acorns. The center front panel of the base has a basket weave pattern design on it, as opposed to the oak leaves and acorns. There possibly could have been a monogram in gilt on this area, The lower border is framed by a series of interconnected logs. The overall color is a dull muted mustard tone, with remnants of gilt work along the base. Condition: Good overall condition. Heavy surface dirt, especially in crevices. Loss of gilt work.
