Katsumata Chieko makes ceramics inspired by natural forms such as sea anemones, sponges, and squash. This piece is unusual among her works because it cannot be used as a vessel. Katsumata often employs very bright glazes, and here, looking carefully, we can discern a lemon-yellow glaze under the encrustation of crushed porcelain.
