Tell me about 2012.80.29 please!
This work is by an artist named Howard Mallory, and is called "We Must Go Home." It was made around 1970. Mallory was actually a member of AfriCOBRA, one of the groups features in the We Wanted A Revolution exhibition. AfriCOBRA, the African Coalition of Black Revolutionary Artists or the African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists, aimed to present vibrant and accessible pro-black artwork. They produced many bright posters, among other works.
So this is related to the Black Radical Women exhibit! Including Wadsworth A. Jarrell and Jae Jarrell?
Exactly! Mallory was primarily a ceramicist and found object artist, but he worked in the same circles as some of the artists in the show, and certainly Wadsworth A. Jarrell and Jae Jarrell, as they were co-founders of AfriCOBRA. This piece almost looks like a relief version of some of the posters you can see near their works!
