    CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION Painted image, in full colors, depicting the Buddhist deity Manjushri, the god of Wisdom, seated on a bright blue lion. The god holds a white cup and a sprig of leaves. He is backed by blue and white haloes. He wears Chinese-style scholars' robes. This lion has an elaborate saddle and tack. It stands on lotuses against a green ground. Multi-colored clouds swirl above and below. Small red cartouche at the upper left, presumably identifying the subject.
