    CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION A tall cylindrical, hollow vessel with an open flared pedestal base, thin neck, and wide body. The top is concave with a flared rim. Orange slip is applied to the exterior and interior, possibly with red slip on top and blackened in some spots possibly from fire. There is an engraved triangular and dot design around the top and a similar design on the bottom of the main body. The base has engraved lines as well as thicker modeled lines with engraved stripes. This is possibly a small hand drum. The ceramic style is Papayal Engraved, Chiriqui Period, 800-1550. Condition: good; some cracks on the main body. Most of the painted decoration is abraded on the interior and exterior. There is an adhesive label attached to the main body with "159" written in black ink.
