Brooklyn Museum photograph

Object Label

Katherine Dreier, who was president of the Sociètè Anonyme (an organization of avant-garde artists), believed in art's potential to shape our lives. She promoted her ideas not only in such paintings as Unknown Forces, but also in essays in which she asserted that her work referred to "new cosmic forces coming to the fore which in time [would] . . . change our vision of life as well as that of Art."
