Raoul Dufy

Brooklyn Museum photograph

Object Label

The Regatta portrays a crowd of spectators watching a boat race at Sainte-Adresse, a popular seaside resort near Le Havre, in Raoul Dufy’s native Normandy. The artist reduced the figures, sailboats, and flags to geometric forms, building his composition through blocks of bright, flattened color.
