Inscriptions

Extensive inscriptions on two storage boxes and on an inserted certificate suggest a history of ownership in Japan dating back to at least 1683. Owners include: Hotta Masatohi (1634-1684), lord of the Koga Domain, Shimosa Province Arai Hakuseki (1657-1725), Edo-period politician Otobe Yoshitoki (1824-1887), major collector and chief retainer of Matsue Domain, Izumo Province Okazaki Masaya (1864-1942), noted lawyer and industrialist
