Frequent Art Questions

  • What material was used to make this piece?

This is a style of ceramic known as jasperware that was developed by Josiah Wedgwood. The blue body of the vessel is made from a stoneware clay that is blended with blue pigment.
The white design elements are made separately (often in molds) of clay that have not been pigmented and then applied to the blue body before firing.
