"CUR" at the beginning of an image file name means that the image was created by a curatorial staff member. These study images may be digital point-and-shoot photographs, when we don\'t yet have high-quality studio photography, or they may be scans of older negatives, slides, or photographic prints, providing historical documentation of the object.
Small terracotta male portrait head, apparently of a foreigner. Conventionalized curly hair with filet running round crown of head. Heavy beard and moustache. Head cast solid in a two part mould and details reworked after removal from mould. General style suggests a Late Hellenistic date and is suggestive of the work done in Asia Minor.
Condition: General condition good. Nose badly chipped. Hole in back of head due to defective moulding.
