Catalogue Description:
Large silver tankard with hinged lid. Body is cylindrical in form, tapers toward top; molding of applied bands around base; engraved double linear border just below the lip. Handle is S-shaped with flaring lower terminal; hinge applied at top of handle, plates of hinge extend to palmette along handle and thumb grip that is joined to lid and spiral fluting. Lid is flat-topped dome with everted edge that is scalloped at front. Thumb grip and hinge are modern replacements after a Vanderburgh tankard formerly in the Phillipse family. CONDITION: Good, wear on handle, cover modern replacement.
