Catalogue Description: Epitaph plaque with 13 lines of text on the "recto." From a set of eight plaques, glazed on all four sides, with text on one face and a number on one edge. The epitaph describes the career and contributions of Kim Gyehuii (1526-1582), who served as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and was posthumously awarded the rank of Prime Minister. Epitaph plaques (chi'suk in Korean) served as memorials for the individuals with whom they were buried. They were occasionally disinterred and replaced with revised versions. The majority of these plaques were written in underglaze cobalt blue, but this group is written in underglaze iron red. The text is in Korean, written in Chinese characters.
