Catalogue Description:
Knife with steel blade and gilded bronze handle. Blade general rectangular shape, with a flare on the dull edge and a rounded end that comes to a point on the dull side. Straight, rectangular handle with squared end has identical decorations on both sides in Japanese-inspired style: underwater scene of a man diving through seaweed toward a sword on the ocean floor, he has a rope around his waist which is held by a figure on the shore. Condition: Fair; much of the gilding is lost; blade is tarnished; large spot of green corrosion on handle near juncture with blade.
