Catalogue Description:
Chippendale style side chair (a) and slip seat (b). Serpentine crest rail carved with scrolls and leaves, joining a pierced splat carved in pointed Gothic arches and trefoils. Splat connects to seat rail with a molded shoe. Fluted stiles, rounded on the back, ending in rounded reverse-curve back posts. Seat frame with molded seat rails, through tenons of side rails visible on back of stiles. Cabriole legs, with acanthus leaves carved on the knees, terminating in ball-and-claw feet. CONDITION - Good . Repair on proper right stile where it joins side seat rail. Some small dents and scratches, especially on the bottom of the middle splat, the top left corner of the back of the chair, and the proper right front foot. Slip seat does not fit neatly into the cavity.
