Catalogue Description:
Salt-glazed stoneware jar. Cylindrical form flares slightly from circular base to high, gently rounded shoulders, slightly concave neck and slightly flaring rim. There are two applied, molded lug handles with incised gadrooning on upper surface and ionic spirals at lower juncture with body. Exterior glaze is medium gray and interior is dark brown. There are dark spots from the original firing throughout and a large dark gray patch near one handle with a smaller patch below. Near one handle is a radiating web of cracks from original firing. Near other handle is a long crack running just below handle, also from original firing. There is one streak of brownish glaze running down exterior from interior. CONDITION: Original firing cracks, as noted, but stable. See conservation report of November 1, 1999 in file.
