Summer Teacher Institute 2010: Inquiry-Based Learning in the Classroom and Museum
This course for K–6 educators explores inquiry as a model of learning in the museum and classroom environment. A behind-the-scenes look at the Brooklyn Museum’s educational practices and collections will support participants as they develop an inquiry-driven lesson plan featuring one or more objects in the Museum’s American Identities installation. The plan will enable students with a range of needs and learning styles to meet the Blueprint for the Arts benchmarks and NYC Learning Standards. Best practices for open-ended inquiry, guided inquiry, and object-based activity extensions reflecting a range of modalities will be supported through modeling, research, reflection/evaluation, and application.
