Lecture: “Greenwich Village in Transition: Emergent Communities, Urban Planning, and Djuna Barnes,” with Thomas Heise

    Thomas Heise, Associate Professor of American Literature at McGill University, discusses the intersection of urban planning, real-estate development, and newly formed bohemian and queer communities in early twentieth-century Greenwich Village. Focusing on the impressionistic newspaper journalism of Djuna Barnes, the talk will consider the social and cultural geographies of the neighborhood during a period of rapid transformation. This program is free with Museum admission.
