The World Is a Womb

This healing ceremony to close Mary Enoch Elizabeth Baxter’s first solo exhibition, “Ain’t I a Woman,” unravels the parallels between reproductive injustice and environmental disaster. By centering communal healing, Black femme creativity, and abolition, the program is an invitation to join the movement for a sustainable and liberated future.

The World Is a Womb is presented with the Brooklyn Public Library. Meet at Central Library  to engage in a roundtable discussion and art-making activity. Then, join us at the Brooklyn Museum for an artist-led tour of the exhibition, followed by a ceremony to process the experience and move forward with strength.

12–1 pm: Roundtable discussion with Karen Washington (urban farmer and activist), Jeannine Kayembe Oro (interdisciplinary artist), Charlyn Magdaline Griffith-Oro (holistic abolition artist and scholar), Judy Clark (advocate for incarcerated people), and Mary Enoch Elizabeth Baxter (artist), moderated by Jaileen Pierre-Louis (cocurator of “Ain’t I a Woman”), Central Library, Trustees Room
