Description |
Dinner fork with four straight tines. Shoulder of fork flares out and then pinches in after about half an inch. This area contains a small floret flanked by a leafy frond on either side. The shaft then narrows to a straight portion about 1 1/4' long decorated with a vertical band of leaves and four florets. This is surmounted by a narrow horizontal band of leaves, which in turn is surmounted by a small oval projection decorated with a horizontal band of three florets each separated by two small leaves. This is surmounted by another narrow horizontal band of five small florets. The handle then flares out gradually and terminates in an arched top with five scallops. This flared area is decorated with a symmetric leaf motif topped by a narrow zigzag horizontal band with small leaves in each section in turn topped by another symmetric leaf motif. Then a large empty reserve intended for initials capped by an arched band of five anthemion aligned below the five scallops at the end of the handle. The reverse has similar but abbreviated decoration. Attica Pattern.
Condition: Good; some wear and scratches and a dent at mid-point on handle. |
