First Saturday Lite

First Saturday Lite with John Edmonds

2–6 pm

Artist John Edmonds hosts this month’s First Saturday Lite—a low-key, free outdoor afternoon amplifying culture and community in our borough—with a dynamic lineup celebrating the exuberance and artistry of the Caribbean diaspora. On the plaza, DJ Lovaboi kicks off the afternoon with soca accompanied by Michael the Pannist, and TYGAPAW offers a rich synthesis of Dancehall and techno. In our backyard Biergarten, catch a set from djFRiTZo and a special performance by harpist Brandee Younger presented by Carnegie Hall Citywide.

Participate in a photo booth designed by the artist to honor the closing of our special exhibition John Edmonds: A Sidelong Glance, or make flags representing your family's heritage using felt and markers. Throughout the day, shop and snack at the Brooklyn Pop-Up Market, which is spotlighting artists and vendors of the Caribbean diaspora.

Schedule:

Plaza:

  • 2–4 pm: DJ Lovaboi with Michael the Pannist
  • 4–5 pm: Tygapaw

Biergarten:

  • 2–4 pm: djFRiTZo
  • 5–6 pm: Brandee Younger

This outdoor event is free and open to the public. Please reserve tickets in advance to visit the galleries. A limited number of timed tickets will be available on-site on a first-come, first-served basis.

For over twenty-one years, we've hosted First Saturdays—monthly evenings of free programming welcoming visitors from central Brooklyn and beyond—at the Brooklyn Museum. This summer, we continue to bring engaging arts and culture to you with First Saturday Lite, a low-key outdoor afternoon in the spirit of our beloved flagship program. Meet us on the plaza on Eastern Parkway at 2–6 pm on May 1, June 5, and August 7. After August, First Saturdays will be paused.

Have a performance, film, or activity you’d like to present? Submit a proposal or get in touch with us at public.programs@brooklynmuseum.org.
