Curator-Led Member Tour: Legacies of the Great Migration SOLD OUT

Thursday, March 30, 2023

6–9 pm

Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art and Morris A. and Meyer Schapiro Wing, 4th Floor

This event is sold out.

Join us for a private after-hours tour of A Movement in Every Direction: Legacies of the Great Migration with Kimberli Gant, Curator, Modern and Contemporary Art. The exhibition brings together twelve contemporary artists to consider the complex personal, social, and cultural impact of the Great Migration period (1915–70), when millions of Black Americans fled from their homes to other parts of the South and of the country. Newly commissioned works exploring these themes range from large-scale installation, immersive film, and tapestry to photography, painting, and mixed media. The tour will guide Members through numerous exhibition highlights, including historical and contemporary census data about Brooklyn’s migration patterns and an oral history “pod” that encourages visitors to share their own personal and familial stories of migration.

This tour is reserved for Trendsetter, Groundbreaker, and Director’s Circle Members, in thanks for their generous support of the Brooklyn Museum. To RSVP, email membership@brooklynmuseum.org. For questions, email membership@brooklynmuseum.org or call 718.501.6326.
