Saturday, June 18, 2016
2–4 pm
Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, Forum, 4th Floor
The documentary I AM PEACE 2 (Tristan Daley, 2016, 22 min.) tells the story of a youth basketball tournament and mentorship program created for teens in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Now an annual tradition, the I AM PEACE tournament was launched by the community group BlackMarketWares in response to several shootings in Jackie Robinson Park in 2014. To combat gun violence in the community, the tournament is held in the same park where the shootings occurred. BlackMarketWares also produces educational entrepreneurship programs, community dinners, and more, with the goal of building a community center in Crown Heights.
Join us as we mark Gun Violence Awareness Month with a screening of I AM PEACE 2 and a Q&A with the videographer, creators of the tournament, and some of the teen basketball players.
Free with Museum admission.
