Virtual Teacher Workshop: LGBTQ+ Art and Activism
Wednesday, June 9, 2021
5–6:30 pm
Online
Join us online for a two-part professional development workshop in conjunction with the Center for Brooklyn History, and explore how LGBTQ+ communities have challenged the status quo and presented radical visions of queer liberation through art and activism. In the second session, educators from the Center for Brooklyn History and the Brooklyn Museum share resources and strategies to support LGBTQ-inclusive teaching. Work with primary sources (such as newspaper articles, oral histories, artworks, and archival materials) that address topics related to queer history and contemporary issues including public health, racial equity, and fair housing. Learn strategies for centering queer identity and agency in the classroom and leave with an array of resources and activities to incorporate into your curricula.
In the first session, on June 8, learn about the evolving nature of HIV/AIDS activism in a panel discussion with two Brooklyn-based artists.
This workshop is offered in conjunction with the Center for Brooklyn History and will be held via Zoom. Registration is $10 for one session, or $15 for both. Financial assistance is available; email us at teacher.services@brooklynmuseum.org to learn more.
